INMETRO is the public agency that handles every measurable product or device. INMETRO was created to help the consumers to know that the product had its conformity approved by having an INMETRO seal, which means that the product and its factory passed through a certification process.
Certification process starts by choosing a Certifier Lab (or Certifier Company), with INMETRO Authorization, to evaluate your product conformities. Some of Brazilian Certifier Companies have agreements with Certifier Companies in your country, and that can make things easier during certification process. They will check if your company and products fill some standards, according to INMETRO law that makes sense according to the category of products. Then, the product itself will undergo some tests and if results are satisfactory, your company shall choose a Local Representative Company, because INMETRO requires a Brazilian Company to apply for registration.
Also, that company will be attached to your products in the Conformity Certificate, as the responsible company for the products and its registration. Then, the Certifier Lab (or Certifier Company) will start a process to issue a Conformity Certificate.
The Local Responsible Company must apply for registration, by creating an electronic dossier and a process into INMETRO’s System, which we call Orchestra. An important issue is that the chosen company must fill some standards, specifically about good practices. Every year (and in some categories of products, every semester), the certifying company will apply an audit to the local representative company, to check the rules that applies to Local Representatives Companies.
RAGB has passed through audits and has filled the standards for at least 4 different Certifier Companies along the last 5 years, not having nonconformities. It is important to choose an experienced company to avoid unnecessary waste of time by having nonconformities in the audits, because that can result in extra time before the Conformity Certificate is issued.
Finally, when the certificate is issued, Local Representative company proceed with product registration. Once the product is registered, you can start doing business with your Brazilian costumers. Your company will have to inform the Company ID of the importers, so the Local Representative Company authorizes them to import the products.
